Your keys stay on your Mac.
Typebar collects nothing. It sees your keys so it can light them, and that is where they stop. Here is everything it reads and keeps, the two things it sends, and what this website does.
What Typebar reads, and why
Typebar reads these on your Mac, only to do its job. None of it leaves your Mac.
- The keys you press, to light them. They are shown, then forgotten: Typebar never saves what you type.
- The menus of the app in front, to name its shortcuts. Never what is in your documents or windows.
- The keyboard shortcut settings files of the apps whose own keybindings it shows: VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Zed, JetBrains IDEs, Xcode, Sublime Text, iTerm2, kitty, Ghostty and WezTerm. And macOS's own keyboard shortcut settings, so a system shortcut you moved to other keys is still named.
- Your keyboard layout, so the keys show your letters.
- Which app is in front, and which apps are running, in the Dock or installed, for per-app rules, hidden apps, profiles and the Apps layer.
- Where the pointer is and when you click, for click ripples, the halo and Spotlight.
- Whether your screen is being recorded or shared, so it can show itself, and whether macOS has marked a field as secure, so it can hide what you type there.
- Where the front app's windows sit, only if you turn on following the display with the active window. Their position only, never their titles.
- A theme, cheatsheet or layer file, only when you import one.
Typebar has no account, no analytics and no crash reporting.
What stays on your Mac
- Your settings, in the usual place for app settings.
- Your themes, cheatsheet edits and layers, in ~/Library/Application Support/Typebar.
- Your license key, in your Keychain. When your trial started, in your Keychain and Typebar's settings.
What goes online, and only this
- License activation, to Dodo Payments, our merchant of record: your key and a name for this Mac made of its model and a random tag, like "MacBook Pro 7F3A". A licensed copy checks again about once a month when it is online, so a refunded key stops working.
- Update checks, to everydaymactools.com, once a day unless you turn them off. Typebar asks for one file, the list of versions, and sends nothing about you or your Mac. Updates download only from everydaymactools.com.
The release build fails if networking appears anywhere in Typebar outside those two parts. Buying opens the checkout in your browser.
This website
This site uses Google Analytics, which sets cookies, to count visits and see which pages people read. It knows nothing about what you type in Typebar, and Typebar itself does not use it.
Checkout happens on Dodo Payments, who handle your payment details under their own privacy policy. We receive your email address and the order, so we can send your key and help if something goes wrong.
